Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
$40 · approximately 30 minutes
Initial evaluation to identify what’s going on and determine the best next steps. This covers the time and travel required to show up, assess the situation, and explain what’s happening in plain language.
What this includes
- On-site arrival and evaluation
- Initial troubleshooting and basic checks
- Clear explanation of findings
- Guidance on available repair or service options
What this does not include
- Repairs, installs, or extended work
- Data recovery or migration
- Hardware replacement or system rebuilds
The $40 trip and diagnostic fee applies to every appointment and covers the visit and evaluation. If we cannot fix the stated issue because it is outside our expertise, beyond the device’s capabilities, or the device is damaged or at the end of its useful life, no additional repair charge applies. We explain our findings and recommendations before discussing any further work. Any additional work and pricing must be approved before proceeding. Data recovery has a separate attempt-fee policy, described below.
Software & Operating System Services
$80–$100 · approximately 1 hour
Hands-on repair and configuration once the problem has been identified. Applied after diagnostics when appropriate; work may be performed during the same visit if the issue is clearly defined. Pricing depends on complexity and time required.
- Operating system errors and instability
- Software conflicts and misconfigurations
- Malware or unwanted software removal
- Updates, configuration fixes, and system cleanup
If the issue cannot be resolved, no additional service charge applies beyond diagnostics. You will not be charged for unsuccessful repair attempts in this category. Scope and pricing are confirmed before work begins.
Hardware installation & related work
| Client-supplied parts | $10 per component |
|---|---|
| AIO cooler or case rebuilds | $50 |
Replacement hardware parts are not included. Custom PC builds can be discussed by phone; no fixed build price is published here.
Data & System Support
Some work may require scheduled device pickup depending on complexity, time requirements, or device condition. Final scope and pricing are confirmed after evaluation and before work proceeds.
Data handling practice
Whenever possible, a backup of existing data is created before any data transfer, recovery attempt, or system-level work begins. This is a good-faith practice to reduce risk and protect client data.
Data transfer & migration
All transfers begin with a $40 Diagnostics & Preparation visit, including evaluation, destination-device setup, and transfer planning. The following charges are additional:
| Up to 500 GB | $30 |
|---|---|
| 500 GB–1 TB | $50 |
| 1–2 TB | $80 |
| Larger transfers | Quoted after evaluation |
Transfer time depends on device speed, connection type, and data volume. Extremely large or slow transfers may require extended time or pickup.
Optional secure data hold — $25
Encrypted storage on a private NAS for up to two weeks, automatically purged after the hold period. Available only as an add-on to transfer or recovery services.
Data recovery — best effort
Recovery attempts retrieve files from failing, damaged, or inaccessible storage. Data integrity cannot be guaranteed, and recovered files may be incomplete or corrupted. Device pickup may be required.
| Up to 100 GB | $80 |
|---|---|
| Up to 500 GB | $140 |
| Up to 1 TB | $200 |
| Up to 2 TB | $260 |
| Larger recoveries | Quoted after evaluation |
If no meaningful data can be recovered, the total is $60: the $40 trip/diagnostic fee plus a $20 recovery attempt fee. If data is recovered, the listed recovery price applies in addition to the $40 trip/diagnostic fee; the $20 attempt fee does not apply.
Before any recovery attempt, we explain the risks, limitations, and applicable charges and obtain your authorization. Recovery may be unsuccessful, recovered files may be incomplete or corrupted, and the device may deteriorate during the attempt. Results vary with device condition, failure type, and prior repair attempts.
Drive cloning & system duplication — $120
Includes a full disk clone and boot verification when applicable. An optional pre-cloning virus/malware scan is $25 extra.
Intel Optane and Optane-accelerated systems cannot be cloned under the existing service offering; they are handled as standard data transfers. Physical damage, bad sectors, or instability may require alternative methods or additional evaluation. Replacement hardware is not included unless explicitly stated.
